Backstory
Bram is a large black-and-gold Sleeping Dragon who settled in Winkwell after discovering that its old buildings offered two things he values highly: sturdy shelves and plenty to listen to. He eventually claimed a broad bookcase in a quiet reading room and has occupied the same stretch of timber so consistently that the shelf now bears a shallow impression matching his ribs. Attempts to move him have generally ended with Bram opening one eye and waiting for everyone involved to reconsider.
Despite appearances, Bram sleeps less than people think. Sleeping Dragons can sense footsteps and movement through the surfaces beneath them, and Bram has become exceptionally good at following a room's activity without lifting his head. He knows which floorboard squeaks, which regular visitor puts books back in the wrong place, and exactly when someone has brought food nearby. He rarely interferes. Still, people who spend enough time around him notice that Bram chooses his resting places carefully. He prefers shelves near familiar company, though he maintains this is entirely a matter of structural quality.
